Choosing the Right Area for Band Practice
How to choose an activity area that your members can realistically sustain.
Your practice area is an operational decision, not just a venue choice. If travel time is too high, band activity drops quickly.
Three rules
- Keep one-way travel under 60 minutes
- Limit to two main rehearsal zones
- Prioritize routes that work after work hours
Decision process
- Share each member’s nearest station
- Compare transfer count and travel time
- Pick three candidate studios
- Run a one-month trial
Typical pitfalls
- Choosing a famous studio over convenience
- One member always traveling much farther
- Booking only hard-to-attend time slots
Sustainable operation
- Keep two schedule patterns (weekday night + weekend daytime)
- Align cancellation policy early
- Re-check commute burden monthly
Bands that last are usually efficient about logistics.
